The Role Of Liver

The simplest way to comprehend the liver is to imagine a filter. Much of what we put into our bodies is filtered and cleansed by the liver. It also produces proteins for the body to use in immune function; metabolizing alcohol; keeping fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K, various minerals, and sugars; managing blood clotting; managing hormone balance; keeping extra blood; and filter the blood by ridding of toxic matter.

Diet for a Healthy Liver

Evidently, the liver is too significant an organ to put in danger. In this area, we have to take on actions that help maintain and make the liver stronger. What you eat can play an important role in this area. A whole-foods diet that contains many fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean sources of protein, and good fats lessens wear and tear on the liver. Meal Size

Heat processing creates trans fats, which are damaging to your liver and to your cardiovascular system as well. Cold-pressed oils might be difficult to find, and scarce, and are mostly more expensive. Whatever oil you cook with, cold-pressed or not, use very little of it. As well, when considering topping that whole-grain toast in the morning, try using hummus or olive oil for a spread in substitution of margarine or butter.

Refined sugars

 

It is good to stay away from refined, processed foods such as cakes, cookies, white bread, and pasta, which can lower enzyme activity and add strain to the liver. These types of foods are transformed into sugar very simply and have trans fats that keep important prostaglandins that guard the liver by lessening swelling. Alternatively, combine whole grains into your diet by eating brown rice, millet, amaranth, quinoa, and whole-grain breads and cereals. These less refined foods lessen stress on the liver.

Protein

Eat lean sources of protein such as beans, nuts and seeds, fish, and white-meat chicken and turkey. Stay away from fatty meats like sausage, salami, pepperoni, bacon, and hot dogs. Does Wu-long Tea Work For Weight Loss?

A lot of people are talking about wu-long tea lately. There are fantastic claims about wu-long tea’s slimming properties, as well as its ability to reverse aging, clear skin problems, and protect against heart disease. Several websites proclaim that they have the only “real” brand of wu-long tea that works. So, lets explore the truth about wu-long tea.

Oolong (wu-long) teas are slightly fermented, then the fermentation process is stopped, giving a result that is something between a green and a black tea.

Does wu-long (or oolong) tea really work for dieting and weight loss? A Japanese study by the University of Tokushima School of Medicine compared Japanese women who consumed either water, green matcha tea, or oolong tea after a meal. The results found that oolong tea appeared to increase energy expenditure by 10%, green tea by 4%, and water not at all. So, according to this study, wu-long (or oolong) tea burns more fat than green tea, and more fat is burned when drinking wu-long or green tea after a meal.

The study also found that wu-long (or oolong) tea has half the caffeine of green tea and half the levels of EGCG, green tea’s cancer killing compound, so if you want the cancer fighting benefits of tea, you get more from green tea. If you want the weight loss benefits you get more from drinking wu-long (or oolong) tea.

There is also some evidence that wu-long (or oolong) tea provides other health benefits such as increased calorie burning, reduced carbohydrate intake and healthier teeth and skin, although more research needs to be done on the subject.

So, is drinking wu-long (or oolong) tea going to help you lose weight? I don’t know. Everyone is different, but it seems to have helped many people (including Oprah) lose weight. Wu-long (or oolong) tea is lower in caffein than many other beverages and it’s high in antioxidants, which help reduce your risks of cancer and other diseases, so drinking a pure natural tea can’t hurt much to try. Add a little stevia if you want a natural sweetener in your tea.

So, do you need to buy an expensive brand of wu-long (or oolong) tea to get the fat loss benefits? Please don’t waste your money on prepackaged name brand type wu-long tea. Any good brand of oolong tea you can buy in a tea store will work. There are different varieties of oolong teas, but often they are just a matter of taste preference, so experiment and try to find the varieties you like the best and will drink the most, for the best benefits.

How Much Should I Weigh? How To Find Out If You Are Overweight or Underweight

How much should i weigh ? That is a right question and every body should ask that or know about their weight. Many ppl go thru life without giving in a moment of thought as to how seriously they are affecting their health through ignorance about their weight.

Being either over or under weight is detrimental for your health.Individuals who are overweight put themselves at a higher risk of suffering from conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. The first step towards answering yourself this question “how much should i weigh?” is to Record your height.
The best time to record your height is in the morning as you do get shorter as the day goes on due to natural compression of the spine when upright.
Then Weigh yourself using a bath scale and record your current weight and do some adjustment for the clothing you are wearing ,
subtracting a few pounds for clothing and accessories is advised.

Step two

After you have recorded your height and weight its time now to consult a height and weight chart.

To calculate BMI, take the weight (lbs) and divide it by height (in). Take the result of that calculation and divide it by height again. Then, multiply that number by 703. Round to the second decimal place.

BMI=[weight(lbs)/height(inches)2 ]*703 for both men & women

eg,Weight = 150 lbs, Height = 5′5″ (65 inches)

BMI Calculation: [150 ÷ (65)2] x 703 = 24.96

The BMI chart for women is the same BMI used by men, children, and teens. Therefore, there is not a specific BMI chart for women.

A BMI for a person with normal weight is between 18.5 and 24.9.
BMI is an indicator of how much fat you have on your body.

A University of Exeter team found nitrate contained in the vegetable leads to a reduction in oxygen uptake – making exercise less tiring.
The small Journal of Applied Physiology study suggests the effect is greater than that which can be achieved by regular training.
Beetroot juice has previously been shown to reduce blood pressure.

The researchers believe their findings could help people with cardiovascular, respiratory or metabolic diseases – and endurance athletes.
They focused on eight men aged 19-38, who were given 500ml per day of organic beetroot juice for six consecutive days before completing a series of tests, involving cycling on an exercise bike.
On another occasion, they were given a placebo of blackcurrant cordial for six consecutive days before completing the same cycling tests.
After drinking beetroot juice the group was able to cycle for an average of 11.25 minutes – 92 seconds longer than when they were given the placebo.
This would translate into an approximate 2% reduction in the time taken to cover a set distance.
The group that had consumed the beetroot juice also had lower resting blood pressure.
Mechanism unclear
The researchers are not yet sure of the exact mechanism that causes the nitrate in the beetroot juice to boost stamina.
However, they suspect it could be a result of the nitrate turning into nitric oxide in the body, reducing how much oxygen is burned up by exercise.
Study researcher Professor Andy Jones – an adviser to top UK athlete Paula Radcliffe – said: “We were amazed by the effects of beetroot juice on oxygen uptake because these effects cannot be achieved by any other known means, including training.
“I am sure professional and amateur athletes will be interested in the results of this research.
“I am also keen to explore the relevance of the findings to those people who suffer from poor fitness and may be able to use dietary supplements to help them go about their daily lives.”
Professor John Brewer, an expert on sports science at the University of Bedfordshire, said: “These findings are potentially exciting for many people involved in sport and exercise, but will almost certainly require further more extensive studies before the exact benefits and mechanisms are understood.
“We must also remember that exercise and training and a sensible diet will always remain as the essential ingredients for a balanced and healthy lifestyle.”
Dr Simon Marshall, of the University of San Diego, has carried out work on exercise and health.
He said much more work was needed involving many more subjects to draw firm conclusions.
“Certainly, a diet high in nitrate-rich fruits and vegetables is good for your heart health and this study provides further evidence of this.”
